Several weeks ago the Mountain View Lodge held a big Murder Mystery Dinner. We drank wine, feasted on a delicious three-course meal, and fought to find out who among us could be a murderer. It was wicked good fun. Manson is famous for their festivals and events – and MVLR is no exception. We’re always brainstorming the next big idea; so it’s no wonder why I am always being asked how to plan these parties. I have compiled my top four pieces of advice for anyone who wants to put together an event of their own. If you are planning a baby shower, birthday party, or a dinner with friends, this advice will help you pull off the perfect event.
1. Start with a vision and a plan-of-attack
What is the purpose of the event? Who do want to invite? How do you want the party to look? Have the overall ideal image in your head and then write out a plan based on that image. Do not worry about the small details just yet, they will come to you as you work, but the overall idea should be present within all of your preparations. This is also when you will want to figure out a budget for the party. One of the things to keep in mind for the budget is the amount of time you have to create the event. If you have a lot of time to plan then you can find sale items to cut the budget down. If you don’t have a lot of time to shop, but have plenty of time to DIY decorations and food, that can cut your budget down too.
2. Get Crafty
Even if you want to just want to buy everything for the event, try to find ways to personalize items at the event. If you have the time to DIY decorations: DO IT. It can be really fun and it feels fantastic to tell guests that you created something that they think looks good. One really easy thing you can do is glam up wine or Champaign bottles. It doesn’t take a lot of skill to do, but the guests are sure to notice. Another idea would be to create your own labels. Karma Vineyards here in Lake Chelan can create personalized wine labels with your name on them for weddings. It’s one of those special details your guests are sure to notice.
3. Buy Local
The last thing you want to do is give your guests low quality food. When you buy ingredients or catering from local businesses, you can be far more certain of what is going into your food. Personally, I love getting ingredients from the local farmers market or Bear Foods. Bear Foods in downtown Chelan carries plenty of organic and gluten free foods. It honestly makes cooking for guests with food allergies so much easier on me.
4. Dress Appropriately
This event is your time to shine! You put a lot of effort into creating this event, and people will notice if you don’t put that same effort into your appearance. Be sure to give yourself enough time to get dressed. The best thing to do is prepare the party space in the early morning of the event, and then take the time before people arrive to clean yourself up. When you feel good about the way you look you’ll be able to radiate confidence, which will make the rest of the event go smoothly.
No matter what kind of event you’re looking to put together, we have you covered at MVLR. If you want help creating parties here in Lake Chelan, give us a call and we’ll be happy to work with you. Event planning can be stressful, but letting us plan it for you is easy.
